Russia's BELAZ has successfully developed an unmanned mining dump truck
Published:2025/1/6 21:46:24

Belaz, one of the world's largest manufacturers of mining equipment, recently completed the production of a prototype giant driverless mining dump truck. This driverless mining dump truck looks no different from a regular mining dump truck from the outside; the only difference is that the cab of this behemoth is completely empty, and operation is entirely controlled remotely by a driver.

Belaz is already synonymous with "big" in the industry, producing the world's largest mining vehicles with a payload of 360 tons, currently unmatched. However, the truck's designed payload is actually far greater than this figure; it's just that under current technological conditions, tires capable of bearing even greater weight cannot be found.

Before 2011, the company's researchers began developing remote control technology. Initially, they could only perform simple operations such as starting the vehicle, moving forward and backward, and unloading via remote control.

Through continuous improvement, the prototype, weighing 130 tons, is now quite mature and can perform all the necessary working skills and actions in actual operation.

In many mining companies, giant mining machinery works up to 12 hours a day, often with a single driver sitting in a cab four stories high, enduring harsh working conditions such as noise, dust, scorching heat, and freezing cold. Remote control operation is the idea that arose from this environment. In the future, drivers will become white-collar workers, able to operate these behemoths weighing hundreds of tons from the comfort of their offices, completing various tasks.
